Dear Di-ary….

Question: Is it hard having your three daughters living in different states?

From: Anonymous

Growing up I was fortunate to have my Aunts, Uncles and Cousins live close by and we enjoyed spending so many wonderful times together.  I cherish all those memories and wanted the same for my family. But we don’t always get what we want!

My children were lucky to enjoy living here and being close to my extended family as well, but as they married and moved out on their own destiny took them to “far off places!”  Like upstate Pennsylvania and the beaches of Virginia.   LOL

Although it is not terribly far it does not lend to being able to get together for a day. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to go to Michele’s in Pennsylvania and about 5 hours to get to Nicole’s in Virginia….then add time for a few pit stops along the way which adds more time to our trip!

Having our three adult children, and their families, in three different states always presented a problem especially around the holidays. The biggest hurdle was at Christmas when each family wanted to be home for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  What were we to do, three families in three different locations….how do we choose where to spend Christmas!  We finally started to take turns each year at Thanksgiving and Christmas and rotate whose family we would be with.  This seemed to work the best for us.  Each year the grandchildren would ask…..”Grandmom do we get you for Christmas this year?”  Well, at least we knew they loved us and wanted us to be with them…..or was it just for all the presents?  LOL

I did miss being able to see some of my grand children growing up and being there for many of the fun things during their early years in school.  But we always managed to be there for the milestone events that really count.

Now…I cherish every time we can get together and spend time with all of my children and grandchildren. The older you get the more you realize that time with your family is what really matters.
